The healthcare sector, now representing more than one-sixth of the U.S. economy in terms of economic activity, continues to change in unimaginable ways. A fundamental transformation of the US medical care system is underway in which healthcare policymakers, payers, providers, and innovators are intensely focused on redesigning healthcare. Healthcare policy is also an area where economics has much to contribute. Join us for a conversation about what the economics of health policy.

Veronika Dolar from SUNY Old Westbury, will lead a discussion of the economics of healthcare policy in the United States. Dr. Dolar will introduce important concepts in the provision of healthcare and comparisons of the United States with other developed countries.
Dr. Dolar received her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 2010. Dr. Dolar has a very rich international experience. She was born in Slovenia (at that time still under Yugoslavia), obtained here international baccalaureate (IB diploma) in Italy at the United World College of the Adriatic and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Western Ontario in Canada. Dr. Dolar also worked at the Bank of Canada and taught at numerous universities and colleges including Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH and St. Olaf College in Minnesota.
Her current research interests include health economics focusing on eating decision, nutrition and obesity, as well as economic education and economics of education.
Dr. Dolar joined the department of Politics, Economics and Law at SUNY Old Westbury in the fall of 2017 where she is teaching Introductory Micro- and Macro-economics, and Health Economics.
